The Universe: Chapter 1 – Matter (Part a)

Essence

Matter is one of the foundations components of the Universe. It flooded the Universe at the event of the Big Bang and created all the components known as Elementary Particles according to the Standard Model, as well as particles that have not yet been identified, such as Dark-Matter particles. According to String Theory, Matter appears in nature in the form of strings of different sizes, and in shapes that are actually various distortions such as coils, circles and loops. The theory of one "Basic-Matter" was born, about a century before the birth of Socrates (one of the most important Greek philosophers), by the first important western scientist – Thalas from the city of Miletus. According to him, the Basic-Matter was Water. The last of the Miletus scientists, Oxymenes, attributed primacy to Air. The existence of one "Universal Matter" that split at the time of Creation into small parts, varying in size, in shape and motion, and finally were joined these parts into clusters of Matter, was a huge idea of British scientist Robert Boyle, although at that time, the idea of the Big Bang event had not yet been conceived. The logic behind my opinion of the existence of only one Basic-Matter is "Occam's Razor Principle". The principle says that if the same result can be achieved in two ways, one simple and economical and the other complicated and wasteful, Nature will choose the more efficient and economical way. In my understanding, it is possible to assemble all the particles in the Universe using only one kind of Matter, when this Matter is in different unique situations. Therefore, this is the way Nature chose.

I must admit that I cannot rule out with certainty the possibility of the existence of more than one Basic-Matter, and indeed this is the prevailing opinion today. The theory on which modern scientists relies on, was developed about a century later to the Miletus scientists, is the theory of Atoms. According to this theory, there are a number of Basic-Matters (these are the elementary particles, inside and outside the Atom, as defined by the Standard Model) whose different clusters creates the Chemical-Elements we know. Even if the current accepted approach is correct, it does not impair my commentary as stated later in this article and in the other articles dealing with the essence of the Universe.

As said, in my opinion there is only one Basic-Matter and in this, I join the opinion of the first scientists, with one substantial difference. They searched for the Basic-Matter among the Materials they could sense with their senses. According to my approach, the Basic-Matter cannot be identified by us as such. The identification made by us is of the features of the Matter that were created in the Big Bang or acquired by it during its existence, and not of Matter by itself. Most of the features of the various particles, as defined by the Standard-Model, were determined in the Big Bang. For example: the density of Matter in a particle, the amount of Matter in the particle, the spatial geometric shape of the particle (straight, coil, loop, sphere, etc.), the time geometric shape of the particle (determines its ability to move in time) and its internal Energy. Other features that we detect in particles originate from external factors. For example, the mass of a particle is determined by the presence of the Higgs-Field.

It is the features I have listed, as well as others, that determine the essence of the particles we identify. It is the features of Matter that create the differences between different chemical elements, subatomic particles and Force-Carriers. In my opinion, Space is also material, and more on that in the next chapter. Apart from the fact that Matter receives features from external factors, it also participates in granting features to the various particles, by creating fields of the Force-Carriers of the four forces that exist in nature – the Strong-Force, the Weak-Force, the Electromagnetic-Force and Gravity.

Here is the place to emphasize my and others' distinction between three concepts, about them there is a tendency to use them as if they were the same thing.

Matter is an elementary component of the Universe (whether there is only one elementary Matter or several different types of elemental materials) from which the subatomic particles are made – Bosons, Quarks, Leptons and their various compositions.

particle is a Matter with features that can be identified and diagnosed, as a different from other particles.

Mass is a feature of particles acquired due to their presence within the Higgs-Field.

Mass is not a Matter by itself.

Invertibility

Science of Physics describes quite a few situations in which any A or B particles inverts to C or D particles, different from the original particles. The phenomenon occurs mainly in the event of an energetic collision between different particles. I certainly agree with the assertion of Science of Physics that particles have changed their identity. An assertion based on experiments and solid theories. Although, in my opinion, it is not the Matter found in those particles that changes, but certain features of particles A and B possessed, passed from one particle to another and vice versa, thus causing the formation of the new particles C and D and the apparent disappearance of the original particles.

As a rule, I don't believe in magic. When I do not know the explanation for a particular phenomenon, I prefer to remain with no knowledge and continue to study the phenomenon, rather than attribute the phenomenon to magic. This is exactly how I feel about the phenomenon of invertibility of Elementary Particles of one type into another Elementary Particles. Scientists make extensive use of sentences such as "In action X, particle A becomes particle B. Also, in the process particle C and Energy were created." My opinion is that nothing is created out of nothing, everything was there before. The changes that occur in events of energetic collisions of particles are the transfer of features between the particles due to the violent encounter between them.
